Gaumukh Trek – Journey to the Sacred Source of the Ganga
···—

Gangotri Gaumukh Trek is one of the most sacred and scenic treks in Uttarakhand, located in the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas. This trek leads you to Gaumukh, the snout of the Gangotri Glacier, from where the holy River Ganga originates. Because of its deep spiritual significance, this trek is not only popular among trekkers but also among pilgrims.

The journey begins from the holy town of Gangotri, which is also an important stop of the Char Dham Yatra. As you walk along the trail, you pass through rugged mountain paths, glacial valleys, alpine meadows, and rivers flowing straight from the glacier. The route offers stunning views of majestic Himalayan peaks like Shivling, Bhagirathi, and Meru, making every step truly memorable.

The trek is well-marked and follows the Bhagirathi River for most of the journey, creating a peaceful and meditative atmosphere. While the trek is moderately challenging due to high altitude, it is extremely rewarding for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike.

Best Time & Difficulty

The best time to do the Gaumukh Trek is from April to June and September to October, when weather conditions are favorable and trails are safe. The trek is moderate to challenging, so a good level of fitness and prior trekking experience is recommended.
